Explore the Outdoors

The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center is a 170-acre area with hiking trails, indoor and outdoor exhibits and a wildlife viewing area. The center is a fun place to bring your family, and is a frequent field-trip location for schools in the area.

Learn. Create. Discover.

Children of all ages will enjoy learning about natural landscapes and local wildlife while exploring the River Valley Nature Center. Hands-on activities such as guided hikes, archery classes, laser gun courses and more are scheduled each week to introduce kids to new outdoor activities. Other educational opportunities include:

  • Boating education classes - Anyone born after January 1, 1986 is required to complete an approved Arkansas Game and Fish Commission boating education course before being permitted to operate a boat on Arkansas waters. The Nature Center provides convenient class times to help residents learn about boating safety.
  • Hunter education classes - Anyone born after 1968 must carry a valid hunter education card when hunting on Arkansas lands. This program is ideal for children under 16 years and any adult new to the sport.

Hiking and Fishing

More than four miles of trails offer outdoor enthusiasts opportunity to see wildlife and enjoy the great outdoors. Fishing can be done at Wells Lake, and fishing licenses are available for purchase at the center.
